MACULA LUTEA

The macula lutea is a small, oval-shaped, pigmented region in the center of the retina of the eye. The macula contains an abundance of cone photoreceptor cells and is responsible for fine, detailed central vision.
Progressive deterioration of the macula is known as macular degeneration.
